A first glimpse into our upcoming documentary
PKGD Films was born with a different premise: to make cinema. Not content. Cinema.
While PKGD TV moves at the pace of the digital age—fresh, organic, like satellite television in the heyday of channel surfing—PKGD Films slows things down. Here, we take our time: we write, compose, light, grade, and design. We aim for stories told with the weight and care they deserve, stories that could live on any streaming platform with pride.
Our first production under this new banner is Capitán Palomo, a documentary that doesn’t focus on the mezcal-making process, but rather on the soul of the man behind the bottle. Carlos Méndez is no ordinary figure. He stands at a crossroads between what he once tried to leave behind and what he now feels called to reclaim.
From the very first treatment, director Juan Pablo Elorriaga made one thing clear: this would not be just another mezcal documentary. It would be a personal story—powerful, complex, and deeply human.
Carlos grew up between fermentation vats and stone ovens. His childhood was made of labor, not play. Eventually, that work became unbearable, and he fled—dreaming of flight. Quite literally: he set out to become a pilot. But life—as it often does in stories worth telling—led him back to where it all began. Not out of obligation, but out of purpose. Because he realized that his inheritance wasn’t a burden—it was a form of freedom.
This post marks the beginning of our campaign to share this story with the world. We’re releasing a first look at the film with a few stills—an invitation, a promise, a warning:
Stay tuned. Capitán Palomo is about to take off.
